We can’t get enough of the hustle and bustle in Calgary or Edmonton, but it’s not for everyone! Some dream of living a laid-back lifestyle far removed from crowded restaurants and busy streets and we get it! Not only can it get pretty wild, but living in a big city is incredibly expensive.
Luckily, for those looking to adopt a wallet-wise existence, the cheapest places to live in Alberta have been revealed for 2023.

In a new report released by Spring Financial the most affordable places near Calgary and Edmonton were broken down and what they found might surprise you!
In addition to this, they also shared what they believed to be the best small towns in the province, starting with Lloydminster where the average home only costs $250,000 with rent sitting between $750 for a 1-bedroom apartment.
Medicine Hat, which has an average home price of $280,000, with rent starting at $850, also made the list, in addition to the following:
As for the cheapest place to buy a home near Calgary? Located 50 km east of Calgary, Strathmore was their top choice. Here, the housing prices average around $400,000 with an average after-tax income of $80,000 per year.
Prefer to live closer to the City of Champions? Consider Vegreville! Known for its larger-than-life egg and wide open spaces, those who live here take home an average of $70,000 a year and can expect the average home to cost around $200,000. If of course, you’d rather rent, one-bedroom apartments cost as little as $850 a month.
