This world famous beach in Canada has white-gold sand dunes & a scenic boardwalk

You may not know of Cavendish Beach by name, but if you’re familiar with ‘Anne of Green Gables,’ you’ve likely heard of the famed Green Gables Shore, which is world-renowned for its connection to L.M. Montogomery’s novel. And whether you’re a literature buff or just want to uncover some spectacular beaches before summer’s end, this spot is for you.

With miles of white-gold sand and its signature red sandstone cliffs, Cavendish Beach offers visitors a plethora of natural features to take in, and plenty of ways to do it. Spend the day swimming and building sandcastles, kiteboarding, surfing at the PEI National Park, or dining at the storied Avonlea Village, if you need to fuel up in between.

Situated at the heart of PEI and its northern shore, the beach is a true “rural paradise.” Plus, the area extends to even more supervised beaches (lifeguards on duty until Labour Day), trails, and summertime attractions – including mini golf, a visit to an amusement park, or a waterpark.

Visitors can also hop to the family-friendly Cabot Beach Provincial Park (a 25-minute drive west of Cavendish) for a beach BBQ, if you’re looking to slow things down!

Now, back to the beach. Visitors will find stunning sand dunes across Cavendish Beach, and can explore the area on marked trails in an effort to preserve the dunes (no dune-surfing allowed!)

And if you’re up for a sunset stroll, consider heading to the Cavendish Boardwalk, which is just a short drive away and has tons of fun shops to peruse.

Accessibility & info

Even better, there are accessible washrooms, beach wheelchairs, and mobility mats at the main beach entrance.

Note that there is an entrance fee at all Prince Edward Island National Park sites.

So there you have it, beach lovers! Time to cross this one off of your bucket list.
