The annual Cavalcade of Lights celebration will take over Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square this weekend. From the beloved Christmas tree-lighting to nighttime skating, here’s what to expect.

Every year, the Cavalcade of Lights illuminates the square with a dazzling array of holiday lights and offerings.

What to expect

According to the City, the square will be set aglow with thousands of energy-efficient twinkling lights, interactive displays, and festive décor around the beloved public skating rink.

On Nov. 29, everyone is welcome to join the opening night celebration and enjoy the musical performances, ice skating, and more. The free event will kick off at 6 p.m. and run until 11 p.m.

Expect an evening of festive activities, including a list of entertainment from multiple cultural backgrounds.

Here’s a rundown of the evening and schedule of activities:

  • 6 p.m. – Welcome with DJ Classic Roots and Cree dancer Anthony Gladue
  • 6 to 7 p.m. – Public skating on the rink
  • 6 to 8 p.m. – Christmas carolling by The Candy Cane Carolers roaming the Square
  • 6, 6:30, 7, 7:30, 8, 8:30, 9, and 9:30 p.m. – Diya decoration workshops led by artist Aakhya Singh. There are 30 spots available in each workshop. Register at the white tent near the doors to City Hall for a spot throughout the night.
  • 6 to 10 p.m. – Toy soldier and snow angel from NorthFIRE circus roaming the Square
  • 6:30 p.m. – Countdown to lighting the Christmas tree
  • 6:45 p.m. – Fever presents Candlelight concert on the main stage
  • 7:40 p.m. – Figure skating performances on the rink by Madeline Schizas, Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud
  • 7:50 to 8:40 p.m.  – Public skating on the rink
  • 8 p.m. – Afro-Brazilian percussion music by Maracatu Mar Aberto
  • 8 to 10 p.m. – Snowflake kids doing LED poi and hula hoop performances by NorthFIRE circus
  • 8:40 p.m. – Electric violinist Dr. Draw with fire performance by NorthFIRE circus on the main stage
  • 8:40 p.m. – Klezmer parade band The Horah Machine
  • 8:50 to 11 p.m. – Public skating on the rink
  • 9:15 p.m. – Featured musical guest Juno nominee Tyler Shaw on the main stage

Though you can expect all the holiday magic to linger until Jan. 7, 2026, you’ll want to pop in on opening night for a night full of festivities.
