This Ontario town is home to storybook-like castles & historical shipwrecks

There’s a picture-perfect town in Ontario, known for its storybook-like castles, historical shipwrecks, gorgeous mansions, and waterfront views. And lucky for us, it’s day trip material! The town of Gananoque is a gem worth exploring and here’s what to know.

According to the 1000 Islands Tourism site, the town is “internationally recognized as one of Eastern Ontario’s most stunning waterfront communities.”

Go on an adventure and explore its charming downtown core. You’ll find delicious dining spots, local shops, arts, and culture.

Gananoque, or also known to locals as “Gan”, is a small town that can easily be explored in a single day.

Whether you’re heading east towards Ottawa or west to Kingston, Gananoque is the perfect stop if you’re looking to grab a bite or to simply stretch your legs.

Hoping to spot a castle? Feast your eyes on the 1000 Islands, which Gan happens to be the gateway to.

Per Destination Ontario, Gananoque and the 1000 Islands is home to castles, shipwrecks, National Parks, millionaire’s mansions, and more.

You can find “cute and quirky cottages, historical sites (including some from the War of 1812), waterside theatres, food, music, festivals and even a casino.”

There’s also a stunning waterfront trail you can explore while you enjoy the wonders of the St Lawrence River.
