An underground bunker in this Ontario village has the world’s largest escape room

West of Ottawa there’s a small village with a pretty massive claim to fame. Carp, Ontario is home to a bunker-turned-museum with an escape room which is now considered the largest escape room in the world!

The massive four-story compound was commissioned by Prime Minister John Diefenbaker in 1959 as part of his government’s reaction to the escalating tensions in the Cold War.

“The purpose of the bunker was to house key members of the government and military in the event of a nuclear attack on Canada,” shares the museum.

The bunker is 100,000 square feet over four levels and is made of 32,000 cubic yards of hand-poured concrete and 5,000 tons of steel!

While it was decommissioned in 1994, the space is now used to host parties, features a bar, and of course has The Escape the Diefenbunker escape room!

According to the escape room, “The multi-award-winning experience runs Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings and all day on weekends. Choose from two experiences — one takes place over an entire floor (that’s 25,000 square feet) of this massive underground bunker.”

Carp has other gems too, like KIN Vineyards, a family estate winery that offers “vineyard tours, tastings and curated food pairings.”

Don’t miss out on visiting this vineyard on a nice summer day, as there is a stunning patio with plenty of seating.

Other popular spots to grab a drink and a bite in Carp include Ridge Rock Brewing Company, The Swan At Carp or The Cheshire Cat Pub!

So much to do in the village in Carp, Ontario!
