Who’s ready for a massive summertime fiesta? Vancouver non-profit Latincouver is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a ton of exciting events this July, including its own version of the popular Carnaval del Sol festival. Get ready to dance to over 300 live artists, ranging from traditional salsa and merengue to beats by a surprise guest DJ.
The all-ages festival will transform David Lam Park into “a hub of Latin American culture,” according to a release. This year’s festival will pay special tribute to Colombian culture with themed workshops, performances, and culinary experiences.
“We are extremely proud of this significant 15-year anniversary,” says Paola Murillo, founder and executive director of Latincouver. “Throughout this journey, we’ve helped create a strong voice for the Latin American community in Vancouver and beyond. I can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish in the next 15 years!”
And if you’re 19+, consider checking out Carnaval del Sol’s opening night concert, which will take place at the Beer Plaza with neon party sets, electronic sounds, gaita, and refreshments from Granville Island Brewing and Topo Chico.
The main stage and nine plazas will feature a mix of musical, culinary, and artisanal Latin American-inspired experiences for the whole family to enjoy.
You can indulge in cuisine from more than 11 different countries, play traditional Latin games like rana, chezz, and parques, participate in Zumba and capoeira dance classes, and peruse tons of crafted goods.
Tickets for opening night can be purchased online for $30 each. Tickets at the door will be priced at $35 each.
If you’d rather pop by on Saturday or Sunday, admission is $15.
Additionally, Latincouver will host a live circus orchestra on July 6th, and tango & flamenco dancing at the Pipe Shop on July 13th.
So there you have it, Vancouver. Get ready for the ultimate celebration of Latin culture!
