It’s mid-week and it’s time for some bittersweet news! No need for scares though because we’re actually pretty excited about the reinvention of North Capitol Hill’s Volunteer Park Cafe. That’s right, this iconic dining spot has officially sold and is on its way to a new life.
The Volunteer Park Cafe was sold to Seattle-based architect and co-owner of Freehand Cellars, James DeSarno. So with his background in wine, he plans to shift the business towards a restaurant, market, and bottle shop. Which honestly isn’t too different from how it originally was.

With that in mind, we can only hope that DeSarno continues to uphold the integrity of this beloved spot. After all, they did have some of the best breakfast bites on the hill. Not to mention, we love the cozy farm core aesthetic this spot has. It truly made for one of the best spots to enjoy coffee with a friend.
So while things are bound to change we’re keeping our fingers crossed that some things at the new Volunteer Park Cafe remain the same. And we’re thankful for all the wonderful times we had at the old cafe. If you’d like to learn more you can click here.
