Broadway is already an iconic street for many reasons. But perhaps one of its longest-running and most frequented establishments is Dick’s Drive-In. Open since 1954, the restaurant is closing next month on December 13th until some time in the new year for some much-needed upgrades.

This sadly does mean that Capitol Hill will be without its favorite burger spot. That being said, the absence will only be temporary and comes for a good reason. The building still runs on its 67-year-old infrastructure and the renovation will ensure the drive-in can keep serving hungry Seattleites. Some of the listed improvements include “new plumbing, electrical, built-in coolers, equipment, etc.”

That means things will remain pretty much the same on the outside which is great news as it’s one of the last heritage buildings with character on that stretch of Broadway. And while we know it will be hard to adjust to a lack of burgers, the drive-in does plan on having food trucks visit the location so be sure to check back and see when they’ll be driving in, no pun intended.

As for reopening, there is a hopeful timeline for spring 2022. So until then, you’ll have to wait for a food truck visit or head to one of the other locations around the city. You can learn more by clicking here.
