This Ontario beach has a long stretch of sandy shoreline & a secluded cove

Beach season is officially here in Ontario! If you’re willing to make the drive down to Sarnia, there’s a stunning Ontario beach with a cove that’s tucked away down the coastline. Here’s why you should add Canatara Beach to your summer bucket list.

It takes you about a three-hour drive, more or less, from Toronto to get to Sarnia’s Canatara Beach. This sandy spot is located within Canatara Park and is about a kilometer long, down the shore of Lake Huron.

According to Ontario’s Blue Coast, this beach is one out of 20 beaches in Canada to have the Blue Flag status, “for its commitment to adhere to strict water quality and a number of other criteria.” On top of that, the beach has rubber mat walkways in an effort to make it more accessible for those using wheelchairs or strollers, and accessible chairs.

As you spend your day at the beach, soaking in the sun and jumping in the water to cool off, you might want to know that there’s actually a swimming hole tucked away at the western end.

According to Destination Ontario, the cove is “secluded from the currents of Lake Huron, but it’s also nestled away from the crowds at Canatara Beach.”

Though there are a ton of other things to do at the beach like grabbing some snacks and ice cream, of course. The park itself is the most well-known in all of Sania as it has rentable picnic pavilions and spaces, a concert stage near the beach, a BMX and Bike Track, and many paved and unpaved trails.

There’s no entry fee for the park but parking payment may be required.

So why not hit up Canatara Beach this summer and explore all it has to offer? It’s worth a trip if we do say so ourselves.
