These are the Canadians that took home awards at the 66th Grammys

Sunday was the biggest night in music and among the performances and fabulous outfits were plenty of award winners, including a handful of Canadians. Here’s a look at what Canadians took home hardware at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards.

Canadian producer Serban Ghenea was recognized with seven award nominations, making him one of the most nominated people of the night. Ghenea did secure one win and it was a pretty large one – Album of the Year for his work on Taylor Swift’s “Midnights.”

Ghenea was also nominated for Best Record for Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire,” Album of the Year for Olivia Rodrigo’s “Guts,” and Record of the Year for Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” just to name a few.

Among the other Canadian talent that went home with an award was Alberta-born singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell who won her 10th Grammy Award. Mitchell claimed Best Folk Album for “Joni Mitchell Live at Newport.”

Not only did the 80-year-old music legend win the honour, she also performed “Both Sides, Now,” taking to the Grammys’ stage for the first time in her six-decade career.

Montreal’s Yannick Nézet-Séguin is also adding another Grammy to his collection. The conductor took home his fourth career Grammy by winning Best Opera Recording for “Blanchard: Champion.” “Champion” tells the tragic story of closeted boxer Emile Griffith.

Rounding out the list of Canadians who took home hardware on Sunday was folk singer Allison Russell, also from Montreal.

Russell won Best American Roots Performance for her song “Eve Was Black,” marking her first Grammy despite being nominated for eight awards over her career.

“All Americana, all of us, all colours, all ages, all abilities, all orientations, all genders. It’s for everybody and I love y’all,” said the musician as she accepted her award.

A full list of nominees and winners can be found here. Among some of the most notable wins were Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” for Album of the Year, Song of the Year went to Billie Eilish for “What Was I Made For?”, and Record of the Year went to Miley Cyrus for “Flowers”.

While she didn’t take home an award, Canadian musician Céline Dion made a rare public appearance and caused quite a bit of excitement in the crowd as she presented the award for Album of the Year to Taylor Swift.
