Calgary is the only city where you can grab a beer from the ‘Canadian Brewery of the Year’

Craft beer to us Canadians is what wine is to the French. And with local breweries pushing the limits of creativity, picking out the best beer is no easy feat… unless you are in Calgary. Because 2021’s Canadian Brewery of the Year happens to be YYC’s often-frequented The Establishment Brewing Company. Lucky for us, and unfortunate for fellow Canadians, their award-winning brews are only available in Calgary.

Now, you might already know that the brewery and taproom set up shop on 1st Street SE in 2019. You’ve probably already spent hours here sipping cold ones with friends too. What you might not know is that this isn’t the only award the brewery has bagged. It also won Alberta’s Brewery of the Year honour in 2021. And many of the unique beers they offer, have gone on to become award-winning brews.

To no one’s surprise then, Establishment Brewing has garnered a hell lot of buzz from beer lovers and industry experts alike, thanks to their experimental brewing, innovative creations and fun flavours. From barrel-aged classics to interesting hop combos and unique hopping methods to refreshing seasonal flavours, the brewery is constantly serving up a variety of quality craft beers.

What started as a passion project for Mike Foniok, Dave Ronneberg and Brandon Hart (friends, beer aficionados and home-brewing pros) is now a great hangout spot for Calgarians. Whether you want to down a few glasses with friends or spend a solo hour (or 2) tasting great brews, their taproom has a place for you. In fact, by their own admission, all friends of beer are friends of theirs by extension. Cool life motto, eh?
