People are capable of some incredible things – but lucky for us, we don’t have to wonder what wild and wacky things have been accomplished in our time! The team at Guinness World Records keeps pretty close tabs on some of the most reckless and impressive things that have been done for recognition and some of your fellow Canucks are on the board.

In fact, Canada holds some pretty interesting world records, many of which might inspire, confuse and even concern you. Here are just 10 worth knowing about!

FASTEST TIME TO POP 100 BALLOONS BY A DOG

Held since April of 2017, Christie Springs and dog Loughren Christmas Star (Toby) once popped 100 balloons in just 28.22 seconds – the fasted time ever recorded. Good luck beating this one, hopefuls!

MOST NAILS INSERTED INTO THE NOSE IN 30 SECONDS

A feat unchallenged by anyone else on the globe, Burnaby Q. Orbax from St. John’s Canada once inserted 15 nails in his nose. What’s even more unbelievable is that this was done in under 30 seconds. Eeek.

MOST INSTAGRAM FOLLOWERS FOR A RAT

Think you have an impressive following on social media? Meet Ice Cube, a rodent who beat the record for most Instagram followers (for a rat) with 25,745 fans. Though he lost his four paws to frostbite, this sweet little furbaby became a star before passing away in 2021. Gone but never forgotten.

LARGEST COLLECTION OF SCOOBY-DOO MEMORABILIA 

With over 1,800 pieces, Alberta’s Danielle Meger earned a place in the Guinness Book Of World Records in March of 2018 for owning the largest collection of Mystery inc. related items on the entire globe. That deserves a Scooby snack!

GREATEST DISTANCE TRAVELLED WHILST JUGGLING THREE CHAINSAWS

As if juggling wasn’t hard enough – Ian Stewart of Truro Nova Scotia once managed to travel 50.97 m (167 ft 3 in) tossing around 3 chainsaws. Talk about serious hand-eye coordination! 

Fun fact, Ian also holds the record for most juggling catches of a chainsaw and two balls!

MOST SOCKS PUT ON ONE FOOT IN 30 SECONDS

You can do anything you put your mind to – but you’re going to need some quick hands and cold feet if you hope to beat the record held by Calgary’s Carolena Kruse, who once put 22 socks on one foot in under 30 seconds.

MOST PEOPLE HOWLING SIMULTANEOUSLY

Do you remember what you did on Canada Day 2017? 803 Canadians sure do! Broken in Niagra Falls, Ontario, Canada’s Great Wolf Lodge now holds the record for most people howling simultaneously. Honestly, we’re impressed.

LARGEST ISLAND IN A LAKE ON AN ISLAND IN A LAKE ON AN ISLAND

Located in northern Canada, you’ll find the ‘world’s largest island in a lake on an island, in a lake – on an island.’ Measuring only four acres (16,187 square metres), it’s likely that no human has ever actually set foot on it – but it exists and holds an impressive record.

MOST T-SHIRTS WORN AT ONCE

In an effort to raise money for a school playground, Ted Hastings of Kitchener, Ontario, broke the record for most t-shirts worn at once. Ranging from medium to 20x, he managed to toss 260 over his head – an accomplishment if we’d ever seen one!

MOST TEETH IN A PERSON’S MOUTH

Are you squeamish? If you are, consider scrolling away now – because Evano Mellone from Canada broke one of the most bizarre world records on this list. Most teeth in a persons mouth.

While the average person is only supposed to have 32 (or 28 without wisdom teeth) in total – Mellone has a whopping 41. Yes, really.
