Canada was just ranked 36th in the world for developing our youth

While youth may be wasted on the young, a study has shown that your youth isn’t completely wasted in Canada.

In a new study by The Commonwealth Secretariat, Canada was ranked the 36th country in the world for youth development. Considering that there are 181 countries on the list, that ain’t too shabby! But still, it’s obvious there’s a lot we need to improve on. Hey, at least we still beat America’s ranking at 65!

The findings were based on 27 factors, from employment to education, to health, to political and civic participation, and much, much more. And, what it was trying to figure out was what places in the world for a young person. Topping the list was Singapore, Slovenia, and Norway, all scoring 0.875 – 0.862 on the report’s 0 to 1 scale.

Up here in the True North, we scored a 0.798; a great youth development score! And, some of our neighbours in the report include Estonia, Lithuania, Greece, and Poland. Hey, that’s some good company.

The report is using data from 2018, so the effects of the pandemic weren’t factored into this report. But, it’s not that weird to imagine that the last year and a half has affected youth development around the world.

If you want to check out the full report, you can go right here. Or, if you’re more of a ‘gist’ person, you can check out their breakdown.
