It’s probably no surprise to hear that Canada-U.S. border restrictions have been extended. The current rules in place have officially been pushed to April 21, and we have a sneaking suspicion that a few more extensions will arrive before the year is out. But, who knows? The future is unwritten!
This morning, the Canada Border Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland security both made announcements of the extensions.
And of course, the Americans had to post their announcement a few hours before ours. It’s always a competition with these folks! Well, maybe we’ll get them next time.

In terms of restrictions, the rules are basically the same. Nothing new! The only cross-border travel allowed is what’s deemed “essential.” That includes trade, major business, and the few exceptions allowed for certain family members and spouses.
Of course, there are also plenty of quarantine rules for coming into Canada which you can get all the details about right here.
After nearly a year of border closure and plenty of province-by-province travel restrictions, it feels like heading down south is nothing but a pipe dream. But, with Canada’s vaccination rollout finally picking up steam, there could be a possibility that Canadian-American travel returns before the end of 2021.
We’re just missing some of our American friends. And, we’re sure they’re missing us.
