Canada was just named one of the most desirable countries in the world

Canada was just voted one of the most desirable countries in the entire world, according to globetrotting travellers.
Travel pros and media brand, Wanderlust, have unveiled its winners of the 24th Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards for 2025. More than 4.8 million votes were cast in, voting on several categories such as most desirable countries in Europe, cities in the world, regions in the world and islands in the world.
Destinations, tour operators and travel brands have also been recognized across 22 categories as part of the awards.
The competition was tight and the competitors fierce. With so many wonderful, beautiful and extraordinary places around the world, Canada received the honour to take bronze in the Most Desirable Country in the world category. And that’s just behind Japan, which placed first, and Costa Rica in second.

But Canada’s recognition doesn’t stop there. The country also had a major win closer to home. Alberta was named the Most Desirable Region in the world. Home to dramatic landscapes, wild Rockies and deep cultural roots, we’re not surprised by this mention.
Vancouver, B.C., also got some love in the Most Desirable City (World) category, coming in fifth place. A win is a win!
Here’s the full list of the most desirable countries in the world according to Wanderlust:
- Japan
- Costa rica
- Canada
- Australia
- Peru
- South Africa
- USA
- New Zealand
- Brazil
- Ecuador
Though we did place third, this recognition speaks volumes about our tourism and international reputation.
And honestly, with millions of travellers chiming in, that’s a pretty glowing stamp of approval. So if you ever needed another excuse to brag about being Canadian, this is your sign.
