Canada’s travel rules are changing again this Friday & here’s what to know

Following the announcement made by government officials earlier this month, the time has finally come! Starting this Friday, Canada will no longer require pre-arrival testing for fully vaccinated travellers.

Starting on April 1st of this year, fully vaccinated travellers will be able to enter Canada by air, land, or water without a negative COVID-19 pre-entry test. However, the mandatory random testing program will stay in place until further notice, so that might be required on arrival. Even still, there is no longer a quarantine procedure while you wait for test results.

As for partially or unvaccinated (unless exempt) travellers, the rules will remain the same. These include either a negative antigen test (1 day prior to flight departure/arrival at border), a negative molecular test (3 days prior to flight  departure/arrival at border), or a positive molecular test (at least 10 days, and no more than 180 days, prior to flight departure/arrival at border).

And, while Canada is dropping pre-arrival testing for fully vaccinated travellers, ArriveCAN is sticking around. Those who arrive without completing their information (either on the website or app) may have to test on arrival and quarantine for 14 days, regardless of vaccination status.

Either way, this move is sure to make getting to, or getting back to, Canada a whole lot easier this spring and summer! Head to the Government of Canada website for the official press release.
