Canada confirms international travellers from around the world can start visiting next week

Following weeks of uncertainty, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) confirmed today that international travellers will once again be able to visit Canada. The news comes as regions across the country grapple with a 4th wave of cases, and will be the first time in over a year that people from outside the US can enter the country for discretionary travel.

Starting on September 7th, foreign travellers (that aren’t from the US) will be able to enter Canada without a mandatory 14-day quarantine. And while this is great news for once they’re here, there’s also a laundry list of requirements to get in in the first place.

These are:

  • must be asymptomatic
  • must have a verified negative test result within 72 hours of their departure
  • must be fully vaccinated, using a Health Canada approved vaccine
  • must submit all requirements via official Canada services and channels

In a nutshell, the government believes that with all these requirements met, foreign national travellers to Canada will present a negligible risk to public health systems. For reference, Americans have been able to visit Canada for non-essential purposes since the start of August.
