A Canadian chef is now a Guinness World Record holder after participating in a live attempt at chopping the most amount of cucumber slices – all while blindfolded.

Think it sounds easy? Think again. Chopped Canada winner and Tiktok star with over 1.9 million followers Chef Wallace Wong now has earned another title – one with major bragging rights.

After participating in the Italian reality TV show Lo Show Dei Record, Wong became the first Guinness World Record title holder for “The most slices of cucumbers sliced while blindfolded in 30 seconds”.

Wong spoke with Curiocity about this massive accomplishment and how it all went down.

“The Casting directors and producers saw my cutting videos from Instagram and TikTok and reached out to me in my DM’s asking to talk to me about potentially going on a show built around highlighting individuals attempting to break and set Guinness World Records,” said Wallace to Curiocity.

“When I found out that I would be accepted onto this show, there was a period of a few weeks where I would have to attempt cutting various items to the production team before they ultimately decided to go with my World Record attempt cutting a cucumber.”

Starting Over

And if the pressure wasn’t enough, Wong had another thing to worry about: he was in recovery.

The Six Pack Chef shared that he suffered an accident on Boxing Day of 2022, leaving him with a broken finger that “completely snapped in half” and as a chef and social media personality, that’s not ideal.

Having to wear a splint indefinitely for at least six to 12 weeks, Wong had to relearn how to cut all over again.

“It was at that moment I practiced for 6 weeks from Boxing Day 26th 2022 to the actual shoot day and attempt day of Feb 6th, 2023,” said Wong.

The Big Day

Now in Italy, the fearless chef was ready to take on the challenge and take home the title. Wong had only one chance and half a minute on the clock, blindfolded and all.

According to Guinness World Record, the most slices of cucumbers sliced while blindfolded in 30 seconds is 166, and that was achieved by Wallace Wong.

“I think as an athlete, previous national level bodybuilder, and someone who has gone on a few high-pressure culinary competitions such as Top Chef Canada, Chopped, and FridgeWars… I’ve learned that I thrive and do actually work even better under the pressure because it focuses me,” said Wong.

Unfortunately, the show is not aired in Canada but if you’d like to see the full video and Wong’s exciting, nerve-racking win, check out the video below.

“To think that now I can say I am one of those individuals who did it on a show & will be in the 2023 book is something I never imagined,” said Wong in his IG post.

Now that’s something to be proud of. Congrats Chef Wong!
