This Ontario town is Canada’s home of the $2 coin & it has a giant toonie statue

There’s an adorable town that’s coined quite the name for itself! Campbellford, Ontario can be found about two hours by car from Toronto, known as Canada’s “official toonie town.”

The Royal Canadian Mint gave Campbellford the title of “The Home of the Two Dollar Coin” back in 1997, and now is home to a 27-foot toonie!

According to Visit Trent Hills, “Located along the Trent River in Old Mill Park, the Giant $2 Coin was built in 2001.”

The coin features an image of a polar bear on an ice floe and was designed by a wildlife and landscape artist, Brent Townsend.

This little slice of local history still stands today and is a must-visit when going to Campbellford.

This isn’t the only toonie statue in this town believe it or not, there’s a second monument built that was built in 1996 by the Town of Campbellford!

The other statue is only a few feet away standing at 20 feet high (6.1 metres) and made with over 700 white and yellow lights.

If you want to do even more exploring be sure to check out the Ranney Gorge Suspension Bridge!

Located within Ferris Provincial Park, getting to the bridge is an easy hike and offers picturesque views.

The suspension bridge hovers 30 feet above the Ranney Gorge just south of the falls, be sure to snap some photos!

Your camera roll is going to be full! Campbellford is calling, Ontario.
