Want to feel like you’re on a famous movie set? Then you have to pay a visit to the charming city of Cambridge.

Located in the region of Waterloo, Cambridge is known for its “old-world” feel and “Dickensian” look thanks to its 19th-century limestone buildings, says Destination Ontario.

That’s precisely what makes it such an ideal backdrop for Hollywood movies and TV shows, and as you may have guessed, many were filmed here.

In addition to Hallmark Christmas movies, the city has been used as the filming location for popular series like The Handmaid’s Tale and Murdoch Mysteries.

Other productions that feature Cambridge are American Gods, Flatliners, Terrific Trucks Save Christmas, State Like Sleep, Silent Hill, Between, Reds, Bitten, and Heroes Reborn.

You can see the full list of productions and the map of filming locations at Visit Cambridge Ontario.

But, there’s so much more to this city than its picturesque streets, although that is definitely a major draw.

It sits right at the convergence of Speed River and Grand River, which is a Canadian Heritage River.

The city is actually comprised of four historic communities — Galt, Preston, Hespeler, and Blair.

“Each with their own rich heritage and histories that now give Cambridge its distinct character,” says Destination Ontario.

There’s also the brand new arts and community hub called The Galtway which is a must-visit in town.

There’s also the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory, which is an incredible indoor tropical oasis that’s home to thousands of free-flying colourful butterflies, as well as exotic birds, plants, and insects.

You will need more than a single day to explore everything this city has to offer, so you can even make a weekend of it!

Whatever you decide to do, this place is bound to show you a good time.
