Alright, people, we come bearing great news! You know how we are always on the lookout for great places to drink and dine. Well, we just found the one that’s going to make braving winter a hell lot easier with its great grub, delish drinks, and unique vibe. Enter: Mama Africa!
The much-awaited pop-up resto-bar will open doors to the public on January 20. Ahead of its grand opening, we bring you exclusive details on 17th Avenue’s newest temporary resident.
The pop-up restaurant is all set to take you on an Africa-wide gastronomical tour. And when we say Africa-wide, we mean Africa-friggin-wide. The menu features delicacies from all parts of Africa- be it Arabic-inspired Northern dishes, Indian-influenced Eastern delicacies, Dutch-infused Southern foods, or Portuguese-blended Western delights.
In fact, you’ll spot many African countries on the menu by the way of their food and drink specialties. So, there is the Boerewors sausage of South Africa, alongside Tajine from Morocco and Injera from Ethiopia.
The same goes for drinks too. There’s Ruksa from Tanzania, Dawa from Kenya, and Orijin from Nigeria.
While it’s spectacular, one-of-a-kind cuisine is definitely what’s kept us on the edge of our seats, the pop-up has a lot more to offer. Mama Africa will be hosting different food and entertainment events throughout its stay. From Suya Tuesday (where you’ll find Suya beef everything) to African Brunch over the weekends to Feature Sundays.
The Feature Sundays are actually pretty interesting. So, each Sunday (obviously) will be dedicated to one country. And you’ll find appetizers, drinks, entrees and desserts specific to the said country. One hundred percent not kidding!
Clearly, Mama Africa‘s determined to give YYC the most elaborate taste of African cuisine we’ve ever experienced. And we, for one, are super excited.
The cherry on the cake- there will be live entertainment from Friday through Sunday. With local African DJs rocking Afrobeats and Amapiano music, comedians and dancers, needless to say, the place is going to be LIT AF.
The only drawback is that all this food and fun is only going to last for a few weeks. So, you might want to hit the pop-up as soon as you can. Here, check out their website here for their menu, reservations and other info.
