Have you ever wanted to enjoy an old fashion with your breakfast bacon? How about a tequila shot with your eggs?  This Stampede season, Calgary bars will be able to serve alcohol well before noon, according to Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis.

An event known to people around the world, the AGLC announced that they’re doing something extra special for those hoping to get the party started a little bit earlier this year.

“Bars, restaurants and lounges in the City of Calgary have the option to start liquor service at 8:00 a.m. during the 2023 Stampede which runs from July 7-16,” they said.

“This blanket approval applies to all Class A, B and C liquor licensees (such as bars, lounges, taprooms and convention centres) in the City of Calgary. Licensees do not have to apply for this particular extension, which is for early service only.”

Sadly, however, if you’re a night owl, bars will not be able to close or serve drinks any later than normal – but they’re still extending your celebration window – with one exception.

While 8 will be the magic number this year – July 7th, will see even more flexibility.

“On Parade Day (July 7) along the route, liquor licensees can begin liquor service at 7:00 a.m,” they explain.

“Private events that obtain individual prior approval from AGLC may start serving at 6:30 a.m. Any group wishing to hold a special event is required to apply for a liquor license. Hours for special events are determined on a case-by-case basis.”
