Another spicy season is here and it’s bringing higher temperatures. In fact, a heat warning has been issued for most of Alberta, which means that most of you will be looking for ways to relieve yourselves on the hotter days. Luckily, there are a ton of places where you can cool down under the scorching summer sun. Not sure where to go? Here are just a few Calgary swimming holes, pools and waterparks where you can dip your toes with friends and family.

SYLVAN LAKE AQUA SPLASH
Located in Sylvan Lake – this Aqua Splash isn’t your run-of-the-mill waterpark. It’s better described as an obstacle course but don’t let that deter you! This giant inflatable attraction is a ton of fun – so make sure you check it out this summer.

Time: 11 am – 8 pm
Cost: $17.50+
DISCOVERY CANYON
Featuring tube slides, a beach and a golf course (unrelated, but still fun), Discovery Canyon is the perfect place to escape the sun. Located in Red Deer, this totally FREE destination is definitely worth checking out – unless you’re not a fan of crowds. This one gets pretty busy, friends!

SUMMER OUTDOOR WATERPARK
With two slides, a spray park, hot tub, climbing wall, diving board and a community-sized pool, Vulcans summer outdoor waterpark is another small, but good summer spot. It’s a bit of a drive, but it’s well worth the trip.

SANDY BEACH
Sandy Beach is one of Calgary’s most popular natural ‘beaches’ (if you want to call it that). Though it certainly doesn’t precede its name, it is still a really great place to go on a hotter day. Bring the dog, the kids, a few snacks, and/or your friends and you’ve got it made!
Where: 4500 14a St SW, Calgary
GRIFFITH WOODS
Taking a walk around Griffith Woods? Bring a swimsuit! Whether you go for the day or just to cool down, this is a fantastic spot to check out on a hotter day. It’s quiet (because it’s practically unknown by those who don’t live in the area), it’s relatively pretty clean and it’s actually gorgeous despite it being within city limits. Check it out!
Where: 160 Discovery Ridge Blvd SW, Calgary
PEARCE ESTATE PARK
Rock beaches have a bad rep, but we promise this one is worth visiting. Located in Calgary city limits, Pearce Estate Park actually has a few little spots where slower water has pooled just enough to cool off on a hot day. Can you get in a full backstroke? Not really no, but it’s close, it’s fun and it’s the Bow!
Where: 1440 17A Street SE, Calgary

ROCHON SANDS PROVINCIAL PARK BEACH
From swimming, canoeing, sailing, and windsurfing to fishing and birdwatching, Rochon Sands, located on Buffalo lake really has it all. Whether you’re camping or just hanging out for the day, you’re practically guaranteed a good time, no matter how you choose to spend it. It also certainly doesn’t hurt that there’s a bomb ice cream shop nearby as well.
Where: 1 Bay View St, Rochon Sands, AB
EBELING BEACH
As one of the most popular beaches in the province, we suggest you head to this one early in the morning. Located on the edge of Gull Lake, Ebeling is pretty close to a variety of restaurants, shops, and hotels, which is super convenient if you plan on spending the entire day out there.
