Calgary mayor says he’ll shower with this radio host if water use drops

Calgary’s mayor just made a pretty unexpected promise on-air, and it somehow involves a shower.

While appearing on CJAY 92, Mayor Jeremy Farkas was chatting with host Tyler Middleton when the conversation took a bit of a turn.

While the two were discussing water use in the city, Middleton pitched an unusual challenge.

“I just have one question about water conservation. Will you have a shower with me?” he asked.

“And I know that sounds weird, but I’ve got a good idea, I think it’s a PSA-style video, you and me, sharing a shower, saving water, and reminding Calgarians to do the same,” he continued.

Farkas played along with the idea, showcasing that he could embrace a little chaos on-air while still keeping the message about water use in mind.

Then he dropped the line that had everyone laughing.

“If we go seven days in a row in the green zone, yes, Tyler, I will have a shower with you,” Farkas confirmed. “It’s up to Calgarians if you want to see that.”

Of course, the playful bet comes with a serious point: Calgary residents are encouraged to reduce water use, especially during the current restrictions. Citizens not only have the opportunity to support the city’s efforts but also enjoy a bit of lighthearted fun.

And let’s be honest, this is probably one of the most memorable ways to remind Calgarians to save water.

Current Calgary water restrictions

As of March 9, 2026, Calgary has been under Stage 4 water restrictions due to ongoing repairs on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.

These restrictions will continue for four weeks, and Calgarians have been asked to save around 25-30 litres of water per day by undergoing the following measures:

  • Keeping showers short (three minutes or less)
  • Flushing toilets only when necessary
  • Only washing laundry and running dishwashers with full loads

Outdoor water use is not permitted during these restrictions, but some services are still allowed, including:

  • Washing your car at an indoor car wash
  • Watering plants for commercial sale or donation
  • Using water for livestock

By following these simple steps, you’ll help keep water flowing for everyone while the repairs are underway!

So, keep your showers quick, laundry loads full, and be smart about your toilet flushing, and maybe, just maybe, Calgarians will get to witness a quirky challenge from Mayor Jeremy Farkas and Tyler Middleton.
