Calgary is holding a Stephen Ave design competition & you can win $10k for your ideas

Calling all artists, architects, and students! This winter in collaboration with the U of C, the city will hold a one-of-a-kind Winter Design Competition that will challenge creatives like you to elevate the downtown area and “push beyond the boundaries of what public spaces in Calgary can be during the winter season.”

From lighting components, and seating to warming huts and play areas, applicants are encouraged to design a space or rest stop that will entice Calgarians to visit the inner city area even in the winter months as part of their ‘Out of Bounds’ initiative.

“As we take a step out of the physical and mental boundaries that we have left behind during the recent years, we have become a community that has adapted and formed new experiences,’ the city says on their website.

‘Out of Bounds’ will focus on winter-friendly tactical urbanism designs that expand existing footprints, provide supplementary lighting, restore social interaction and act as a multi-sensory way-finder along Stephen Avenue.”

If you have an idea and would like to apply, proposals will be excepted until Wednesday, December 1st at 11:59 MST.

Winners will be announced on December 17th and will receive $10,000 to complete their project.
