Ready to quite literally make your mark on the Albertan landscape? A new contest features a prize of getting to name a forthcoming trail connecting Calgary and Cochrane. The contest comes from the Rotary Club of Cochrane, which is looking for support in getting things moving. Here’s what to know about it.
The Trail, as it’s currently known, is hoped to become part of the (much, much larger) Trans Canada Trail, which stretches some 27,000km from coast to coast. The Calgary to Cochrane stretch is somewhat finished. But, it requires some significant support to actually complete, mostly due to a new pedestrian bridge needing to be built.

Which is where this contest comes in. All you have to do to enter is provide a name, the reason why you picked it, and some contact information. Sadly, the contest is not based on public voting, so it’s unlikely that the trail will get the name Traily McTrailface (our top pick, obviously).
In addition to the naming contest, those who donate to the project will also get some form of commemoration on the trail. These range from the relatively inexpensive ($200 for a walking path engraved brick) to the outrageous ($3M for a walking bridge over the Bow River). Even still, we think that the naming contest is the way to go.
