When you think of the most livable cities in Canada, does Calgary come to mind? Alongside Guelph, Saskatoon, Ottawa, Regina, and Winnipeg, Calgary also managed to crack the top 10 list in a recent survey conducted by Zolo.
Calgary placed 10th amongst Canada’s most livable cities based on criteria which included home price, household income, population growth, and even sunny days per year.
Obviously, here in Calgary, we have a pretty great track record for sunshine. But there are plenty of other reasons Calgary is one of the very best places to live in Canada.
No matter where you live, the housing market is a hot topic. Take the guesswork out of where to live next with this list of the top most livable spots in the country.
There’s a lot more to consider than just housing prices when it comes to finding a decent place to live. Affordable mortgages are great, but if you dislike the place you call home, or can’t find a job at all, is it really worth it?
Luckily, there are a lot of bonuses to living in Calgary that extend beyond our stable and affordable housing market. Zolo notes that it’s one of the best places to thrive mentally, physically and professionally, as well as financially.
So what’s to like about Calgary? With a cost of living that’s seven per cent lower than the national average, and an average household income of over $129,000 per year, it’s a fantastic place to call home and raise a family.
The benchmark average home price in YYC is $567,900 per year, and the city is dominated by aerospace, energy and technology industries, according to the data from Zolo.
Zolo also notes that many Canadian residents who are looking for an affordable place to live end up moving westward from Ontario and Quebec. Calgary is a great place to settle, which, over the past few years, has seen its fair share of new residents from Toronto.
With some of the highest after-tax incomes in the country, affordable home prices and plentiful job opportunities, it’s hard not to see Calgary as one of the best places in the whole country to live.
You can take a look at all the cities listed by Zolo, but before you do, let us know if you were surprised to see Calgary’s position in the top 10.
