An authentic Brazilian Carnaval celebration is coming to Vancouver next month

Carnaval is a vibrant annual tradition in Brazil known across the globe for its grand costumes, dancing, and the widespread joy it inspires. It celebrates the country’s cultural richness, blending European influences with African cultures and history. Today, its festivities span from samba to frevo and maracatu, and Vancouver is getting its own taste of Brazilian Carnaval.

In partnership with the Brazilian Community Association, Latincouver presents an all-new event for the books that’s expected to attract over a thousand people. Taking place at the Croatian Cultural Centre, Vancouver’s Brazilian Carnaval will feature a full day of authentic Brazilian culture, music, and community spirit. There will be immersive activities for the whole family to enjoy, whether it’s at a dedicated kids’ zone or one of the many cultural booths.

An iconic headliner

The headlining act is Brazilian artist Mateus Vidal, who will take centre stage with an axé performance. Vidal is the former singer of the renowned bloco-afro group Olodum, who once collaborated with international music icons like Michael Jackson, Jimmy Cliff, and Paul Simon.

The band’s global fame skyrocketed after they were featured in Michael Jackson’s 1996 music video for “They Don’t Care About Us,” which was famously filmed in Brazil.

In addition to an exciting lineup of live Brazilian bands, visitors will get to experience traditional Brazilian cuisine and have the option of participating in an exciting 19+ party come nightfall.

“Events like the Brazilian Carnaval are vital for the Latin American community in Vancouver,” shares Paolla Murillo, founder and executive director of Latincouver. “They provide a space to celebrate our rich cultural heritage, connect with one another, and share our traditions with the wider community.”

How much are tickets?

Tickets are available online and are priced at $15 per child (and one guardian), $20 for GA adult admission, $35 for two, or $85 for five.
