An Edmonton park known for its art was once awarded for having Canada’s best restroom

This park in Edmonton is home to some of the most amazing sculptures in the city.

Located in the community of Virginia Park along 112th Avenue is Borden Park, one of Edmonton’s best parks. With over 100 years of history, this spot is filled with art, walking paths, and even a formal flower garden. Whether it’s just to take a stroll, hang with friends, or enjoy the outdoors of Edmonton, this is definitely a place to visit.

What’s in the park?

The park is home to many beautiful pieces of artwork, amongst its natural scenery.

One of the most notable installations is the Vaulted Willow, a sculpture by Marc Fornes and THEVERYMANY. This sculpture takes the form of a 20-foot-tall, branching, downwardly curved structure made of 721 brightly coloured aluminum shingles. Its large and beautiful figure overtakes the park in a stunning way.

If you can believe it, the bathrooms are another highlight of this spot, winning Canada’s Best Restroom in 2021. The pavilion for the bathroom’s exterior is made of a material which is transparent from the inside but dark and mirror-like from the outside, giving the structure this cool effect.

During the summer, the park is home to one of Canada’s first natural swimming pools. This is Canada’s first public, artificial swimming pool, surrounded by sand and the perfect destination when the weather is hot. In the spirit of the park being full of art, the bottom of the natural pool even has a stunning mosaic!

Borden Park also just happens to be a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Edmonton Expo Centre.

There are loads of things to do at the Edmonton Expo Centre, from Farmfair International to the Taboo Show coming up soon. Whatever you’re interested in, the Edmonton Expo Centre is sure to host an event you can look forward to.

No matter what you decide to get up to, you should definitely stop by!
