This town is nestled between two of the most scenic lakes in Ontario

Perhaps you’ve heard its name in a song, or maybe just in passing. After all, it is a popular tourist destination. We’re talking about Bobcaygeon, Ontario, a must-visit town when in the Kawartha Lakes.

Located about 90 minutes northeast of Toronto, Bobcaygeon is nestled between two of the most scenic Kawartha lakes, Sturgeon and Pigeon.

Besides being the birthplace to the world renowned Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream, this area is called “The Hub of The Kawarthas,” and is home to Lock 32, the first lock and most visited on the Trent-Severn Waterway.

The historical Lock 32 was built more than 160 years ago, was the first lock constructed on the Waterway, according to Parks Canada.

“Located in the heart of Bobcaygeon, boaters can find a variety of facilities and services nearby. Its prime location makes this lock one of the busiest ones along the Trent-Severn Waterway,” states Parks Canada.

Additionally, there is the Bobcaygeon Wilderness Park which provides over eight acres of accessible trails for walking, hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing through a beautiful mature forest.

Located at the meeting point of Pigeon and Sturgeon Lakes, providing visitors with many water activity options like kayaking or canoeing.

In fact, near by is Boyd Island, the largest undeveloped island in the Kawarthas, which you can paddle past and admire, or explore its natural beauty along the trails. Boyd is a land trust now, and is open for all to respectfully enjoy.

Bobcaygeon is a beautiful destination year-round, and fall brings out a burst of colour to the region. So if you’re looking for a spot to check out soon, this is one to add to your list!
