This scenic boardwalk is in an Ontario park with a hilly escarpment terrain surrounding a lake

Fall leaf chasers, this place is for you! If the thought of scenic boardwalks, sweeping vistas and outdoor adventures puts you in the best mood, then a trip to Ontario’s Kelso Conservation Area is in order. This park is home to an extensive network of trails, one of which surrounds a stunning blue lake.

About an hour away from Toronto, nestled along the Niagara Escarpment in Milton, is the Kelso Conservation Area.

This outdoor recreational park has so much to offer, from fall hiking adventures and even a climbing course.

What can you do here?

Check out the Escarpment Walk Aerial Course and the Vultures View Climbing Tower for a thrill.

“The Escarpment Walk is an aerial ropes course that will test your balance, coordination, and courage as you traverse the climbing elements,” shares Conservation Halton.

“The Vultures View is a climbing tower with three walls, each with several different elements and features that will take you more than 45 ft. in the air.”

Helmets, harnesses and climbing equipment are provided, and you’ll also get instructions and guidance from their trained climbing staff.

But the show’s star is Kelso Lake, a captivating human-made reservoir initially designed to manage the risk of flooding from the nearby Sixteen Mile Creek, per Destination Ontario.

“This river flows from the Niagara Escarpment through Milton and Oakville, emptying into Lake Ontario,” adds the site.

Stunning views

Over time, it has evolved into a shimmering blue oasis for paddling and swimming in the summer.

For a fall hiking adventure, head out to the boardwalk where you can stroll along the perimeter of the lake with amazing views all around you.

The park’s hilly escarpment terrain is flooded with fiery reds and oranges of fall.

The park has a multitude of trails along the escarpment and through Kelso’s old-growth forest where you can also enjoy these sights.

Hikers and their dogs can traverse the 6.4 km Kelso Conservation Trail, immersing themselves in the fresh air and nature views.

Just be sure to have your dog on a leash at all times.

So whether you seek the thrill of a scenic view, the tranquillity of a lakeside stroll, or the rush of downhill skiing in the winter, Kelso is the place to be for an outdoor adventure.
