This expansive BC park is home to a crystal-clear lake & ‘diverse range’ of wildlife

Want to plan a full day of being immersed in the wilderness without going the distance? Nestled between Whistler and Lillooet is Birkenhead Provincial Park, an expansive park with lakeside camping options, plenty of trails, and a stunning cold-water lake. While it might still be on the cold side for swimming, the latter offers visitors plenty of canoeing, kayaking, and even windsurfing options. Let’s get into it!

Renowned for its well-maintained trails and lush forests, Birkenhead is truly a hidden paradise for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Winding paths take you through some of the most breathtaking ancient Douglas firs, cedars, and spruce trees – and there are designated mountain bike trails if cycling is more your jam.

And if that’s the case, you’ll definitely want to explore the 8 km Birkenhead Lake Trail, which takes hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders from the south end of the lake up to the logging roads.

The adjacent Gates Lake (AKA Birken Lake) just adds to the park’s allure. The freshwater lake is surrounded by stunning mountain vistas and sandy shores, making it the ideal spot to set up shop for the day if you’re looking to enjoy some activities on the water.

So there you have it, Vancouver! A stunning, underrated lake day destination is just an hour and a half away. Stay safe out there!
