Resumes at the ready, YYC, we’ve got big news from the corporate world! The multinational tech company, Infosys, has announced that they’ll be expanding operations from India all the way to Calgary, meaning we could see as many as 500 new jobs on the market!

This news really couldn’t have come at a better time considering the unfortunate reality that is the COVID pandemic. With so many who have lost their jobs, this could be a huge deal for our city! Infosys, with over 240,000 employees worldwide, provides software development and services to some of the globe’s largest financial, insurance, and manufacturing companies. In short, it’s a beast.

During the big announcement, which was made (virtually) alongside Premier Jason Kenney, Mayor Naheed Nenshi and CEO’s from West Jet and Calgary Economic Development, as well as SAIT president David Ross among others; Ravi Kumar, the president of Infosys, said that Calgary was chosen because of its positive quality of life and its impressive academic community.

It also didn’t hurt that we have a pretty low cost of living in comparison to other major cities.

“We think Calgary is going to be a vibrant tech and innovation hub,” Kumar said.

As for where and when the $13 billion company will set up shop? Well, due to the pesky pandemic they haven’t decided on a space yet, but we think it’s safe to say it’ll likely be large and in charge. She’s a hefty one, folks!
