Betty’s Run for ALS set to takeover North Glenmore Park this June

One of Calgary’s most iconic social and charitable events of the year is back this year with the 27th annual Betty’s Run for ALS. This annual fundraiser by the ALS Society of Alberta is a walk/run event that will be officially happening on Sunday, June 11th this year.

Taking over North Glenmore Park, the event will feature music, coffee, a BBQ lunch, mini donuts and even a Kid Zone for the little ones. All while raising funds for a good cause.

Curious (ha!) why Curiocity is a regular sponsor of Betty’s Run?

We have several team members who have lost family members to ALS. It’s a terrible disease and we have seen firsthand the fundamental impact the staff and volunteers of the ALS Society of Alberta have had on the individuals and families affected by ALS.

For those who are not familiar with ALS, we’ll fill you in. It’s a progressive neurodegenerative disorder which causes the nerve cells to deteriorate and stop sending signals to brain cells. This results in the person affected by ALS losing their ability to move, swallow, and breathe.

It’s tough to think about and it’s even tougher to witness and experience.

Now, if you’re a regular reader of Curiocity, you know we aren’t here to bum you out.

But we are here to let you know that Betty’s Run is an amazingly well-organized and fun event. It aims to raise awareness and funds so the good people of the ALS Society of Alberta can keep doing the unbelievable work they do every day.

As ALS usually impacts mobility first, the equipment alone required to make an ALS patient more comfortable can easily exceed $100,000. Through the ALS Society, these are the sorts of patient needs that are met at absolutely no cost to the family.

So, consider this the sign you’ve been looking for to make a positive contribution to your community, get active outdoors, and have fun in the sun now that winter is behind us!

Register now at the ALS Society of Alberta website below as either an individual or group and choose if you’d like to walk or run!

See you there, Calgary!
