Who were they? Before we get to that it’s important to note how this was determined.

According to CN Traveller, candidates were judged by ‘hundreds of thousands of respondents’ on a set of criteria relevant to this particular category.

Those who participated were asked to give a rating of excellent, very good, good, fair or poor, then these ratings were given a final score based on four decimal points.

Using this methodology, Lake Louise Ski Resort and Marmot Basin landed in the top 15.

Lake Louise

Coming in at #13, Lake Louise was revered for its “4,200 acres spanning four different mountain faces and a solid mix of beginner, intermediate, and expert runs from every chair.”

“Here’s what else makes it a dream for all walks of skiers,” they wrote.  “Steeps backed by an awe-inspiring wilderness, bowls dusted in famously dry powder, four terrain parks for beginners to experts, and long cruisers—one of which winds on for five miles.”

At #9? Marmot Basin, which has the highest base elevation of all the major Canadian ski areas.

“The resort’s 1,780 acres of terrain is perfect for progression with 30% beginner, 30% intermediate, and 40% advanced and expert runs,” they explain.

“Whatever your style of skiing or riding, you’ll find it here, from tree runs in the lower mountain area to high alpine open bowls and chutes in the upper area, plus two terrain parks. The Caribou Chalet, located at the base, is the perfect place to refuel with poutine or cozy up by the fire in one of the warming huts.”
