Toronto’s restaurant scene has experienced great success in 2023, especially when it comes to new openings. And there’s more to come. But for now, we’re looking back at all the best new and exciting restaurants that have opened in the city this past year.

Here are 15 of the best new restaurants and bars that opened in 2023:

Aera

Recently opened Aera is described as a “luxuriously appointed steakhouse, sushi counter, cocktail bar, and rooftop terrace.” This exciting concept is located on the 38th floor at 8 Spadina Avenue.

It features “an expansive rooftop patio with dramatic views of the CN Tower and Lake Ontario.”

O&B Corporate Executive Chef Anthony Walsh and Executive Chef Binit Pandey have created a special menu highlighting seasonal raw bar eats, a selection of steaks and chops, and luxe takes on classic comfort food.

Bar Prima

Bar Prima is described as “the neighbourhood Italian restaurant you’ve always dreamed of,” with a “luxurious atmosphere that evokes a sense of timelessness and nostalgia.” Get ready to enjoy delicious like the Pasta al Forno, Sea Bream Acqua Pazza, and Stone Fruit Jubilee.

Contrada

This cozy, new spot is the latest addition to Toronto’s Little Italy. Contrada offers a tantalizing Italian menu, a crafted wine list, and a signature cocktail menu, all within a dimly lit interior.

Daphne

Here’s one of the best new restaurants worth checking out.

If you have yet to enjoy the delicious cuisines Daphne serves, you’re missing out. It is a modern American-style restaurant and garden terrace, featuring a menu with a contemporary twist. Expect to enjoy some seasonal American classics, small bites, handcrafted cocktails, and an extensive wine list.

Kissa

A new cocktail bar and lounge experience is coming to Toronto’s King Street West from the team behind Soluna. Japanese-inspired lounge Kissa, offers a new concept to the city, with two floors, one of which will have an exclusive members-only room.

Chef Michael Parubocki from Momofuku and Kasa Moto is the Director of Culinary alongside Head Chef Dylan Sampson. They have developed a special Japanese-inspired Izakaya-style menu.

Lee Restaurant

One of Toronto’s most beloved eateries, closed and quickly reopened, offering fans of Lee Restaurant a new dining experience while still enjoying their favourites. Their new digs boast a wonderful dining space and a stunning bar, perfect for date night. You can enjoy all the classics like their beloved signature Singapore slaw, once again.

Margo

Toronto’s King West neighbourhood is home to many wonderful dining establishments but this one is worth the experience. Margo is influenced by the diverse cultures, fresh ingredients, and flavours found on the Mediterranean Coastline.

Maxime’s

Maxime’s is Toronto’s latest steak, seafood, and cocktail destination. Stay late and enjoy the vibes!

Miss Aida

Toronto’s latest spot for Levantine cuisine, created using local produce. Miss Aida is a sophisticated spot led by head chef Mohamad Hazbawi. He focuses on dishes from his hometown of Beirut, with a twist.

OEB Breakfast Co. Toronto

After opening its first Toronto location in Liberty Village, the Canadian chain has opened its second location in the city, in Old Toronto, right at 20 Toronto St.

OEB Breakfast Co., is known for its elevated breakfast classics, like Korean Bulgogi Benny, breakfast poutines, Canadian Lobster & Shrimp Crepe.

Paradise Grotto

Paradise Grotto transports you to the tropics with every sip of their deliciously crafted cocktails. And as for the food, whether you’re there to enjoy light bites with friends or a meal with a pal, Paradise Grotto offers delightful options like paradise fries, umami slaw, spam musubi, and bao.

Paris Texas

Though it does serve as a spot to get your country music fix and dance the night away, you may be pleased to know that Paris Texas also serve up some delicious eats. Saku Tuna Tacos, Lobster Pomme Frites, Beef Dip Sliders, and more.

Pigeon Café & Bar

Self-named for having the “world’s worst coffee”, this wonderful little cafe offers delicious brunch and dinner specials. Pigeon Cafe & Bar has several locations in Montreal and one in Toronto. We recommend you book your reservation a few weeks in advance, especially for brunch – it gets busy.

Prince Street Pizza

It’s official, the highly anticipated New York City-based pizza spot, Prince Street Pizza is here and if you have yet to stop by for a slice, you’ll want to do so ASAP.
