Digital nomads, listen up! The newly-released Workation Index has the scoop on the best cities in the world for working remotely, and some of them are right here in Canada.

Online tutoring platform Preply has created a ranking of the cities that offer the best conditions for employees working from home.

The ranking analyzed 74 cities across the globe based on ten factors across three categories: “Quality of Life,” “Climate and Environment,” and “Costs and Safety.”

Quality of Life takes into account factors like English language proficiency, healthcare, and respect for human rights.

Climate and Environment analyzes factors like the number of sunny days, green spaces, and the average temperature in each city.

Finally, Costs and Safety looks at the costs for international schools, affordable housing, and overall safety in each city.

Then, the collected data was transferred into a scoring system to compare all cities equally.

Only one Canadian city made it into the top 10, and believe it or not, it’s none other than Ottawa.

Ottawa isn’t exactly known for its warm climate, but it does have a lot of green spaces.

It was also once ranked one of the best cities in the world for work-life balance, so that earns the city some points too!

Below are the Canadian cities included in the report:

  • Montreal — 27th place
  • Vancouver — 36th place
  • Toronto — 47th place
