There is a soft-sand beach on one of Alberta’s warmest man-made lakes

Summer is calling — and as temperatures rise, there’s no better way to answer than with a trip to an Alberta beach.

Wild Rose Country might not be known for sun or sand, but that doesn’t mean we lack them entirely.

Located south of Brooks, Lake Newell is a scenic gem with plenty to do and see.

Here, you can lounge or make castles on the shoreline, read a book under an umbrella, go boating, or explore the nearby trails.

Why you should dive in

Described as one of Alberta’s best-kept secrets, Lake Newell is one of the largest and warmest man-made swimming holes in the province.

Here, not only is the water clean, but it is ideal for comfortably enjoying canoeing, sailing, fishing, motorized sports, and, of course, swimming.

“A hidden gem of the prairies, Lake Newell is open, beautiful, and deep”, writes Brooks Region Tourism.

“This is the perfect combination for boaters and recreation enthusiasts.”

Extend your stay

Want to stay overnight? You are in luck.

If you’d like to check it out over a weekend, visitors can set up camp at Kinbrook Island Provincial Park, which is situated right on Lake Newell.

To book, you can visit the Parks Alberta website to claim a spot between April and November.

According to the government page, there are 199 sites available and suitable for RVs and tents, as well as 14 unserviced posts with 185 powered options.

If you’d like to do something other than relax on the beach, you can also visit the historic Brooks Aqueduct or wander Dinosaur Provincial Park — it’s all just a short drive away.

Pack your bags, grab your sunglasses, and enjoy. This is the ultimate sunny day destination.

Catch you out there!
