Whether you’re into whisky/bourbon yourself or have friends that are trying to get into it…or maybe you want to impress practically any ‘aficionado’ you’ve ever met, then this is something worth knowing about. BCL recently announced that it will be releasing a collection of the extremely rare and hard-to-get Van Winkle Bourbon brand. Here’s what to know about it.

Distilled and aged at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfurt, Kentucky. The Van Winkle Bourbon line has become a holy grail for bourbon enthusiasts over the years. Once purely a family company, the brand can trace its roots back over a century, but has become a gold standard for the spirit only in the past 10 years or so.

Picking up awards year after year, the line (which features 5 different versions of the bourbon, plus a rye) is more or less impossible to get your hands on. Releasing only once per year, and only to verified distributors, the range is notoriously hard to find at MSRP, and often comes with a lottery system for diehard buyers. Wanting to skip all that? We found a few bottles for sale, sure, but they start around $1,500 USD. Yeah, this is on the level where even empty bottles have a resale market.

So, even if the BCL is opting for a lottery system of its own, we’re just happy for the opportunity. To throw your hat in the virtual ring, all you have to do is scan a QR code at participating BCL locations between now and February 14th. With your entry, you might just get the chance to swing by a nearby BCL to pick up a bottle of Van Winkle bourbon (note: the rye version is not included in this collection), ranging from the Old Rip Van Winkle 10-Year ($159.99) all the way up to the grand-daddy of the bunch, the Pappy Van Winkle 23-Year ($899.99).

One thing’s for certain- if you manage to get your hands on one, everyone you’ve ever met who likes bourbon will be asking you for a taste. You’ll be the belle of the bourbon ball!
