BC has brought back the indoor mask mandate & here are all the rules to know

Coming off the heels of the newly announced BC Vaccine Card, the provincial government announced that it would bring back the mask mandate for all indoor public spaces. The new mandate comes into effect tomorrow, Wednesday, August 25th. Here’s a quick rundown.

The new BC mask mandate will pretty much be the same as before, but with a new twist. This time around, both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals will be required to wear masks.

Aside from that, here are the places that will require them:

  • malls, shopping centres, coffee shops and retail and grocery stores;
  • liquor and drug stores;
  • airports, city halls, libraries, community and recreation centres;
  • restaurants, pubs and bars (unless seated);
  • on public transportation, in a taxi or ride-sharing vehicle;
  • areas of office buildings where services to the public are provided;
  • common areas of sport and fitness centres when not engaged in physical activity;
  • common areas of post-secondary institutions and non-profit organizations; and
  • inside schools for all K-12 staff, visitors and students in grades 4-12.

According to the BC Government, the new mask mandate will be in place at least until the introduction of the BC Vaccine Card, but may be extended as necessary. For more information on the return of the mask mandate, you can check out the press release in full here.
