Here’s a look at the major facelift underway at Eau Claire plaza (RENDERINGS)

Calgary has seen a few pretty wild changes in the last few years with even more to come! From the Glenbow to the East Village, it’ll only be a matter of time until we’re wandering familiar neighbourhoods and city blocks as if we’ve never even been there before. One popular spot that has seriously piqued our interest? Eau Claire Plaza, which is currently undergoing an impressive $25 million dollar redesign.

With building assessments and inspections complete, the city just recently moved into the more exciting part of the renovation, the demolition – but for what? What exactly can we expect in the coming months and what will the area look like when it’s all finished?

Well, before we get into all of that, it’s important to explain why they’re redoing the area in the first place, and who better to do so than the city itself?

“The Eau Claire Plaza is being redesigned as part of the refresh of the Eau Claire area to allow for more flexible year-round uses and improved accessibility for all residents and visitors,” they said on their website.

Basically, they’re hoping to create a place where community gatherings, bigger events and even festivals can be held no matter the weather or occasion – which we think is a great idea.

To do this, they’ll be replacing the Jaipur Bridge, creating a larger green space for crowds, laying down a market street, riverside terrace and urban plaza, enhancing flood protection, and creating a promenade lit by overhanging lights. Sounds quite pretty, hey?

Unfortunately, though renderings give us a pretty good idea of what the city will come to know as Eau Claire, we won’t actually be able to see it with our own eyes until fall 2023 when the project is complete – but believe us when we say that we’ll be on our seats in anticipation!

In the meantime, if you would like any more information, you can visit the website here!

It’s an exciting time, don’t ya think?!
