You can float in a natural ‘bathtub’ on this secluded Ontario island

You’ve heard of natural lazy rivers in Ontario, but what about natural bathtubs? Bathtub Island near Katherine Cove in Ontario’s Lake Superior Provincial Park is a unique destination where you can soak in warm bathtub-like waters.

According to Ontario Places, the small northern Ontario island is made up of eroded rock, which creates a natural sunken basin with collected lake water that accumulates over time as a result of high waves.

The water is then warmed up by the sun, making it a really nice temperature for a natural bath.

The website says that the natural bathtub is always replenished by the large waves of Lake Superior, so the basin constantly refills with fresh water.

Bathtub Island is also very picturesque, with the basin of water turning a turquoise shade in the sunlight, surrounded by the glistening lake.

So while you’ll definitely want to pack your camera, you best tread carefully on this island as the smooth rocks do tend to get slippery.

Getting there is relatively straightforward too, according to Lake Superior Circle Tours.

Once you arrive at Katherine Cove, follow the coastal trail south until you reach the shore.

From there, you can climb into the water and wade out to Bathtub Island — don’t worry, the soft sand and shallow water make it an easy journey.

“It is a short yet demanding hike with the reward of a satisfying soak in a bathtub overlooking Lake Superior,” the website says.

Believe it or not, there are plenty of islands in Ontario to explore, each with its own unique features.

The outdoor adventures are endless in this province. Which one will you try first?
