Did you know that Ontario has a natural ‘bathtub’? You read that right! Bathtub Island is located in Ontario’s Lake Superior Provincial Park and it’s a very lovely spot where you can soak in warm waters, reminiscent of a bathtub.
According to Google Maps, Bathtub Island is near Katherine Cove in Ontario’s Lake Superior Provincial Park. Per Lake Superior Circle Tours, the island is named due to the “basin like impression that fills with water when Lake Superior’s waves become high enough to reach it creating a natural “bathtub”.”
In order to reach the island, you’ll have to follow the coastal trail south from Katherine Cove.

“Once you get to the shore the water is shallow and sand is soft enough that you can easily walk out to the island just off the shoreline,” shares the tours site.
“The island is made of smooth rock that can get very slippery to climb onto. It is short yet demanding hike with the reward of a satisfying soak in a bathtub overlooking Lake Superior.”
Bathtub Island is a picturesque spot, with its water turning a turquoise shade in the sunlight.
It’s important to note that Bathtub Island is not a day use are so for those visiting, you must treat it as a backcountry trail.
“There are no toilets or garbage bins at the site,” shares Lake Superior Circle Tours.
“Visitors must practice backcountry etiquette by packing out whatever they bring in, including used toilet paper/tissues, and leaving no trace.”
As previously mentioned, it’s in Lake Superior Provincial Park so day use permits to access the park must be purchased, especially if you need to park as roadside, highway parking is not allowed.
Alternatively, you can park at the Katherine Cove or Sand River parking lots and hike along the coastal trail to Bathtub Island, per Lake Superior Circle Tours.
Now who’s ready for an island adventure? Be safe and enjoy your bathtub experience.
