The drive along a bay to this Ontario park is clad in red, gold and orange during fall

Northern Ontario is truly at its peak this time of year. Batchawana Bay Provincial Park can be found in Ontario’s Algoma District on Lake Superior. The park transforms into a vista of fall colours as the season rolls on, and it’s nearly at its peak! Time to start planning your visit.

Getting to Batchawana Bay Provincial Park

The drive from Toronto is lengthy, but it’s worth it.

Batchawana Bay Provincial Park is about 40 kilometres from Sault Ste. Marie along Highway 17, meaning it will take you just under eight hours to drive from Toronto/the GTA.

The park has a day fee of $12.25 per vehicle.

Things to do

If you’re visiting during autumn, there is no shortage of hikes to venture on and sights to take in.

The drive to the park is where the beauty starts.

Along Highway 17 from Haviland Shores around Batchawana Bay displays the Algoma Hills tower above the Superior shore, dripping in colours of red, gold and orange.

According to Ontario Parks, “The best fall colour viewing in Batchawana Bay is available from the beach on the east side of the park where the contrast of Lake Superior’s blue waters can be seen against the brilliant yellows and oranges of the season’s change.”

Wow!

The main beach within the park may not be ideal for swimming or lying out for a tan this time of year, but it’s a great place to relax and enjoy the changing colours and the vast views of the lake.

The park is open for day use until Oct. 20, so if you need something to do over the next couple of weekends, this is your sign to pack the car.
