When it comes to exceptional dining experiences, no one is doing it like Richmond’s Baan Lao, revered for its Royal Thai cuisine and seamless blend of Thai heritage and the Canadian fine dining scene. And it looks like we’re not the only ones who think so – because the acclaimed spot just won the title of the “Best Restaurant in Canada!”
The prestigious 2024 World Culinary Awards took place on Wednesday, October 2nd, crowning Baan Lao as the best in the country. With no shortage of incredible dining options from coast to coast, this is certainly a remarkable feat, though perhaps unsurprising if you’ve been lucky enough to dine here!
Now in its 5th year, the World Culinary Awards recognize outstanding culinary destinations, hotel restaurants, training institutions, and landmark establishments across the globe.
In Canada, previous holders of the ‘best restaurant’ title include Vancouver’s St. Lawrence, Toque in Montreal, and Alo in Toronto.
According to the World Culinary Awards, Baan Lao also joins the ranks of international winners of the past like The French Laundry and Atelier Crenn.
Serving up delicious Thai fare sourced from the finest local ingredients, Baan Lao has truly blossomed under the guidance of Executive Head Chef Nutcha Phanthoupheng.
“We are incredibly honoured to receive the title of Best Restaurant in Canada from the World Culinary Awards,” says Chef Nutcha Phanthoupheng. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and passion of our entire team. We are deeply grateful to our loyal patrons for their support, and we remain committed to elevating the dining experience and sharing the beauty of Thai cuisine with the world.”
Despite its many accolades, Baan Lao retains its warm dining atmosphere and waterfront charm. So don’t walk – run to make your reso – because we have a feeling that spots are about to fill up pretty quickly.
Bon appétit, foodies!
