If February has you missing the magic of the holidays and all the warm and fuzzy feelings that come with it, I know just the place that will get you right back. Arrowhead Provincial Park is home to Ontario’s longest outdoor made-made skating trail and on Fridays and Saturdays in the winter, the trail is lit up by hundreds of tiki torches.

Known as Fire and Ice Nights, all are welcome to come glide along the ice, whether it’s with your family, part of a night out with friends or a romantic date night.

Fire and Ice Nights have shot up in popularity over the years, but I have all the info you need to make sure you get your spot booked.

Getting to Arrowhead Provincial Park

If you live in Toronto or the GTA, getting to Arrowhead is just a quick road trip. The park is about two and a half hours by car, located in Huntsville, Ontario.

Make sure to note that because the skating trail can get busy at night, you’ll need to make a reservation beforehand. To do so, just head to the Ontario Parks reservation page and select day use.

From there, pick Arrowhead and you will see a reservation space for ” Day Use + Fire and Ice Evening Skate.” Select your date, and you’re done.

The trail and exploring Arrowhead Provincial Park

Arrowhead’s skating trail spans 1.3 km, winding through forested areas with towering trees, which are particularly stunning covered in a blanket of snow.

According to Ontario Parks, the ice trail “is a bucket-list item for many Ontarians,” and I don’t blame them.

Need skates? No problem. Arrowhead has skate rentals available, but be sure to get there early and grab some on the weekends as that tends to be the busiest time for rentals and skating.

Want to explore a little more? There are 28 km of classic ski trails and 16 km of skate ski trails at the park and they range from beginner to expert level of difficulty, meaning there is something for everyone.

Just like skating, no from-home equipment is required! Ski packages with skis, boots, and poles can be rented at the park’s pavilion.

Time to hit the trails, Ontario!
