A Brazilian festival is taking over this popular Toronto street this weekend

Arraia, one of Toronto’s boldest and vibrant festivals all about Brazilian culture, is coming to Toronto this weekend, and it’s inspired by the traditional Brazilian Festa Junina.

Midtown, get ready for a full day of culture, food, music and neighbourhood celebration.

A taste of history

According to organizers, Festa Junina is one of Brazil’s biggest cultural celebrations. It’s held every June to honour Saint John the Baptist.

“It began in the 16th century with Portuguese settlers and grew into a vibrant mix of European, Indigenous, and African traditions,” they add.

“The festivals are known for their colorful decorations, traditional costumes, and a wide range of typical foods, fun games, and live music.”

What to expect

Now, the vibrant street festival in Toronto will take over a stretch of Yonge Street, transforming it into a lively gathering where all can experience Brazilian traditions.

Visitors can expect a handful of local vendors in attendance, along with traditional Brazilian food, classic Fest Junina games and more.

Organized by MYBIA, Arraiá will bring the community together, all while showcasing the beauty of Brazilian culture.

So if you’re looking to try traditional Brazilian eats, shop local or simply want to enjoy the moment, you don’t want to miss out on this festival.

After all, it’s free to enjoy! See you there, Toronto.
