One of Canada’s largest living history sites is in Ontario and it’s transforming for the holidays

There’s a magical holiday experience coming to one of the largest living-history sites in Canada. Ontario’s Upper Canada Village is transforming its heritage site into a bright winter wonderland for its annual Alight at Night festival.

Starting Nov. 28, Alight at Night will light up the evening sky with over one million lights, creating a stunning holiday backdrop.

Its heritage buildings, trees, and fences will be adorned with glowing lights.

“Bundle up for an evening stroll through this picture-perfect postcard setting,” shares the site. “Over one million lights illuminate Upper Canada Village, creating a one-of-a-kind magical backdrop – a true winter wonderland!”

What can I expect at Alight at Night?

Here’s what’s on the itinerary:

  • Pommier Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride –  A ticketed, 30-minute carriage ride for up to four guests. This experience also includes full access to the Alight at Night Festival and a gift of four tickets for Upper Canada Village’s regular day programming in 2025.
  • Snap Holiday Photos with Santa – Take a picture with Santa at Saint Nick’s Winter Workshop
  • Festive Dining – Enjoy delicious holiday classics at Willard’s Hotel, Harvest Barn, BeaverTails, Village Café, and the snack hut.
  • Sing Along to Old-Fashioned Carolling – Stop by Christ Church for heartwarming carols.
  • Miniature Toy Train – Hop on the life-sized, colourfully lit toy train for a 15 to 20-minute magical ride. Tickets at $8 plus tax.
  • Festive Sound & Light Show – Enjoy the Sound and Light Show at Crysler Hall.
  • Holiday Shopping – Explore gifts and artisan-made products at the Village Store. You’ll also find its popular Village-made bread and cheese, but they do sell out fast.
  • Activity Stations – Take pics of Alite-Brite’s giant nostalgic glow, Snowy Silhouettes and gingerbread figures, or cozy up on the Mistletoe Loveseat! Stop by the Frosty Fun Zone for hot drinks, holiday games, ornament decorations, and more.

Tickets are now on sale for Alight at Night and are priced at $9+ for those aged 18 to 24, $18+ for those aged 25 to 64, and $17+ for those 65 and up.

The event is only open on select days from 5 to 9 p.m.
