Nearly all of Alberta is under a winter weather warning & some spots may see -50 C

Winter is here and it’s clear, snowfolk. Despite our wishful thinking, the province is in for some extreme cold as Environment Canada has issued winter weather warnings in Alberta.

With that darned Polar Vortex hovering over and around Western Canada, freezing winds will continue to blow in from the North, bringing the temperature in major cities like Calgary to lows well below -40 C.

As those who live in the area may have already suspected, Edmonton will actually be among those that see the worst of it with Environment Canada suggesting that the ‘This prolonged period of extreme cold’ will continue into the weekend and could dip as low as – 50° C, though YEG is not the only place that will get frosted over.

Other areas that may face the big five-oh include Slave Lake, Spruce Grove, and Lloydminster.

Of course, cold is cold – so please, no matter where you are stay in, stay warm, bring your pets inside, and don’t forget to bring blankets and emergency supplies in your vehicle.

While we can’t speak from experience, we hear that frostbite and hypothermia really suck – so do what you can to avoid them. Mother Nature is not playing around this year!

For more information or to see Environment Canada’s individual extreme cold warnings for each Alberta town and city please visit their official website here, and again – be safe, folks!
