This is when the biggest ski hills in Alberta are opening this year

While we haven’t gotten our first big snowfall yet, this week’s teaser has probably put ski season on your mind. If powdery slopes are calling your name, then you might only have to wait a little longer. Here’s when the biggest ski hills are expected to open in Alberta for the season.
Mt. Norquay
Mt. Norquay is a top ski and snowboard destination in the Banff area, and they’re one year shy of their 100th anniversary! This ski hill has runs for all ski levels along with a terrain park, tubing, and night skiing!
Opening Date: Saturday, November 2nd, 2024

Nakiska Ski Area
Calgary’s closest mountain is well-known for it’s long ski season thanks to plentiful snowfall and state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment to top it up when needed. Their tentative preview weekend is set for November 8-15th, so keep your eyes on the forecast!

Lake Louise
Lake Louise is the biggest ski resort in the Rockies and it’s also located in Banff National Park. Keep your fingers crossed for lots of snow, because they’re tentative opening date is Friday, November 8th.

Banff Sunshine
Banff Sunshine Village might be one of the most famous ski and snowboard destinations in the world! With three mountains and heated lifts, it’ll be another good year in the Rockies, Alberta. The opening date is currently set for Friday, November 8th – Mother Nature dependent!

Marmot Basin
It’s been a challenging time for Jasper, but Marmot Basin is excited to welcome visitors with open arms. They were lucky not to sustain any structural damage from the Jasper Wildfire, and with a light dusting of snow already on the mountains, their crews are busy getting lifts ready to go. Their website lists a tentative opening in “mid-November” so stay tuned Alberta!

Castle Mountain
Located in southern Alberta is beloved for its dry powder snow and terrain that draws thrill-seekers from all over the province and beyond. They have a current tentative opening date of December 6th, but we’ll see how the conditions play out and keep our fingers crossed for sooner!
